Subnautica 2 enters Early Access carrying the full weight of its predecessor’s reputation, as well as public development drama, and immediately establishes itself as a true continuation rather than a reinvention.

Across nearly ten hours of exploration, the experience consistently delivered what was expected: more Subnautica. The unfamiliar ocean world captures the same balance of discovery, tension, and atmosphere that defined earlier expeditions, while introducing a variety of quality-of-life improvements and mechanical refinements.

The core loop remains highly effective. Exploration drives progression, with curiosity rewarded through new technology, lore and storytelling, and increasingly dangerous encounters beneath the surface.

While the current build already contains a respectful amount of content, the developers have made it clear that the game is intended to remain in Early Access for several years. As a result, the present version feels more like the beginning of a much larger journey than a complete voyage.

The foundation is exceptionally strong, and the eventual full release promises something substantial.

For now, however, Subnautica 2 is placed in Cryostasis.

The oceans remain unexplored.

The descent will continue later.

Pronouncement: Placed in Cryostasis.
