STARSEEKER: Astroneer Expeditions arrives as a follow-up to Astroneer, but rather than simply recreating the original experience, it establishes its own identity almost immediately.
Across more than three hours of exploration, the game demonstrated a stronger emphasis on expeditions, mission-based progression, and world discovery. Instead of focusing on traditional base building, players operate from a central space station, accepting assignments from NPCs and venturing down onto a planet in search of resources, objectives, and opportunities.
The familiar DNA of Astroneer remains present throughout the experience. Terrain manipulation, mining, and exploration all return, but feel smoother and more refined than before. Interacting with the environment often feels effortless, helping maintain a steady sense of momentum while exploring.
Although the game clearly encourages cooperative play, solo expeditions proved entirely viable and consistently enjoyable during the evaluation. The structure never felt dependent on having additional players present.
Perhaps the most exciting element is the promise of future expansion. Even within its current state, exploration provides a strong incentive to continue playing, and the prospect of additional worlds arriving over time only strengthens that appeal.
There is a whole early access still to go but at this point STARSEEKER succeeds not by repeating Astroneer, but by evolving its ideas into something broader and more adventure-focused.
The station remains active.
The next expedition launches tomorrow.
Pronouncement: Still very much alive.
