Dead Reckoning: The Long Drift is cold and dark. Charged with guiding a generation ship carrying humanity’s hopes for a new home, players spend decades making the major choices that will determine whether the expedition succeeds, or quietly fades into history.

Each turn represents another year of the journey. Rather than managing every detail, players shape the colony through pivotal decisions, watching the crew’s ideology, knowledge, culture, and priorities evolve over time. The destination is only part of the challenge. The people who eventually arrive may be very different from those who first departed. Or the AI now in charge is.

Our inaugural expedition favored caution, charting a relatively short thirty-six-year voyage to an arid world where the colony managed to establish its first foothold. It was a successful mission, but one that also revealed how much room there is for the journey to grow.

Multiple starting scenarios and numerous stars to explore suggest some solid replayability, while the decision driven gameplay provides an engaging framework for telling unique stories. However, the current Early Access build could benefit from clearer presentation of information, stronger recap summaries near the end game, and a broader variety of events to make each voyage feel even more distinct. Much of this seems to be planned.

The destination is promising. The voyage simply needs more chapters.

Dead Reckoning: The Long Drift is therefore placed in Cryostasis.

The colonists sleep.

We’ll wake them when the future arrives.

Pronouncement: Placed into cryostasis.
