Warhounds presents itself as a tactical game inspired by XCOM and Jagged Alliance, replacing their sometimes frustrating RNG with a more realistic ballistic system. In theory, that sounds great. In practice, realism becomes questionable when bullets travel through walls, or even up through solid ground.
Those problems are especially unfortunate because much of the game surrounding them was enjoyable. The East African setting provides an interesting backdrop, base management adds another strategic layer, and parts of the squad management and mission finding experience felt closer to Cyber Knights: Flashpoint than XCOM, although not as polished.
Combat could be satisfying as well, but the promised ballistics lose their appeal when point-blank shotguns to the head hardly damage or impossible lines of fire succeed. Those moments happened often enough to seriously damage an otherwise positive experience.
Warhounds is a full release, but this one needs some more time.
Warhounds is therefore recorded as Cryostasis.
The squad is holding position.
Awaiting corrected firing solutions.
Pronouncement: Placed into cryostasis.
