Urban Strife reaches its long-awaited 1.0 release after several years in Early Access, prompting a return visit to see how the zombie survival RPG has evolved. The result is a game that remains rough around the edges, yet consistently enjoyable underneath those imperfections.

Set in rural Georgia during a zombie outbreak, players assume the role of an individual mysteriously immune to the infection. From there, the focus shifts toward helping a struggling town survive by recruiting allies, navigating competing factions, and preparing for the inevitable arrival of a massive undead horde.

Combat remains one of the game’s defining features. Tactical encounters are challenging and often unforgiving, demanding careful positioning and thoughtful planning. Even then, success is never guaranteed. A seemingly safe 70% shot can miss at the worst possible moment, while melee specialists occasionally discover that probability has a cruel sense of humor.

The road to 1.0 is not entirely smooth. A handful of bugs required restarting the game during the session, an unfortunate distraction in a full release. Likewise, the writing fluctuates between occasionally cheesy dialogue and moments of genuinely solid character interaction.

What keeps Urban Strife engaging is the freedom it offers. Multiple factions, meaningful choices, and long-term town development hint at a campaign with plenty of replayability and different paths to explore.

It is a deliberate game, one that asks for patience rather than speed. While future stream time will depend on an increasingly crowded schedule, the experience remains compelling enough to warrant another visit.

The barricades still stand.

The horde has not won. Yet.

Pronouncement: Still alive.
