Transport Fever 3 officially arrived today, although we’ve already spent several days laying tracks, moving cargo and moving an airport that was perfectly fine five minutes earlier before someone built their house next to it and then complained about the noise.
At its core, this is more Transport Fever, and that’s exactly what I wanted. I’ve loved this series since the first game, and the third entry already feels like another one capable of consuming a ridiculous amount of time.
The biggest improvement may be the towns themselves. Cities feel more dynamic and involved than before, making the places we’re connecting feel like a larger part of the simulation rather than simply destinations for our transportation network. This is upported by the more dynamic industries coming and going from the map as well.
Not every change lands perfectly. The new UI has some questionable choices, although this is a developer with a history of continuing to tweak its games. Map generation could also use another pass. Several returning biomes don’t currently produce maps as consistently interesting as Transport Fever 2, while the new biome has been producing some of the best maps of the bunch.
Those are complaints for a game I’m going to be playing a lot, not reasons to stop playing it.
Transport Fever 3 is very much Alive.
The lines are open.
We’ve got a lot of track left to lay. No mom joke here.
Pronouncement: Still very much alive.
