Solargene reached version 1.0 shortly before this filing, and my first exposure to it came post–early access. Somehow I missed this while in development. Over the course of roughly fifteen hours across three streams, the systems revealed themselves gradually.

At its core, Solargene is a solar system–scale colony simulation and base builder. Bases can be established on planets, moons, in orbit, and across ships. Resources are mined, processed, and transported across vast distances, creating a web of logistical dependencies that reward careful planning.

The pacing is slow and methodical, leaning more toward relaxed long-form management than reactive chaos. For a stream it is one of those games that might border on being a little too slow but it’s content is worth it.

There were minor negative points, primarily around learning curve clarity. Some systems require patience and experimentation to fully understand. You can also get yourself into trouble if not micromanaging certai parts.

As a 1.0 release, the game feels well done and I liked that the building system was similar but not identical across all environments you will build. It may not be flashy, but it is stable, enjoyable, and simply a big’ole building game that is cool for those into space.

A return visit remains likely.

Pronouncement: Still alive.
