Railroad Corporation 2 has departed early access and entered full release, arriving with familiar cargo but also some unexpected surprises. Though I did not check out the game during it’s early access phase, the 1.0 build called for formal inspection.
Much like its predecessor, the title diverges from traditional rail-focused simulators. The track construction system remains less flexible and expressive than genre leaders, limiting the satisfaction typically associated with route planning and network artistry.
However, the game distinguishes itself through unique twists like research focused on improving you engines speed and power. There are interesting mechanics to be found in other areas like different types of land in cities for industry and social, giving you ways to expand your corporation into the production and product endline areas. This is where I finally found how you can get a warehouse to transfer goods.
Across four hours of service, Railroad Corporation 2 proved that you don’t have to do the expected and just do it better to be a good choo choo game. This game definitely goes it’s own way in many areas and while it doesn’t scratch the full train sim/management itches, it was an enjoyable game.
The line remains operational. Further expansion pending. I want to get back to this for more play on stream.
Pronouncement: Still alive.
