Last State is an upcoming roguelike that challenges you to survive in a world reclaimed by nature. Think of old school sandbox and exploration like Caves of Qud, but in a more famililar setting of a world that has slowly faded out of humanties control. Last State wants to do this with a more modern UI.

Now let’s be clear as can be, this version of the game is pre-release of what will be an early access game.

Starting on the edge of a forest and what was a meadow or grassland, the exploration on stream started instantly with some light guidance by a tutorial. Some tools already in had we needed to collect materials and start trying to survive and then hopefully thrive. We didn’t get very far though. While taking 3 days to craft a spear was kind of funny and gameplay I didn’t mind, some of my UI issues just didn’t make it enjoyable at this time.

The best thing to do was put it away, praise it for a good idea, and hope that more time to cook helps it become what it wants. Again, this was a pre-release version to a game not even in early access.

Wandering through the forest trying to make a spear for three straight days will happen again on stream.
