Battleplan arrived today with a different approach to World War II strategy, and after a few hours, I was finally starting to appreciate what it was doing.
The tutorial was a bit of a struggle, but things began clicking once we got into a proper battle. Drawing plans directly onto the map isn’t always the smoothest experience, but it’s a genuinely interesting and enjoyable way to command your forces.
Another welcome surprise was seeing Canada available as a playable Allied nation alongside the United States and United Kingdom. Canada’s substantial contribution to the Allied war effort doesn’t always get the recognition it deserves in WWII games, so seeing it treated as a serious participant rather than simply an extension of Britain was just cool to see, and no I am not Canadian.
By the end, we’d won our first real battle and I was enjoying myself. There’s clearly more here I want to explore, but the current schedule doesn’t leave much room for another campaign.
