The Last Starship officially left early access and reached version 1.0 and my first exposure to it came after it hit it’s full release. I completely missed this game during it’s development phase and came in knowing two things. It was made by the original Prison Architect developers and it had the same top-down looks. Ok, I knew it was in space two.
On stream, the primary focus was explaining that it wasn’t like RimWorld in space. That is mainly what I remember honestly. The game is supposed to be a snadbox and you pick your path, hunting, mining and other jobs. You can build multiple ships, buy them and edit them, or even have space stations your ships can drag around to do things like mine for you. You hired workers, set up not-exactly-factory-game production chains. It sounds pretty cool.
When time was up though the game just hadn’t hooked me. The game world, or galaxy, seemed kind of empty. Very empty actually. Jump to a star and nothing was there on a regular basis. Maybe it gets better the deeper in you get but if five hours feels “meh” then it’s time to move on.
The game was solid and no bugs were crossed. It may not be a homerun but there are some how may enjoy the game.
Pronouncement: Dead and gone.
