SpaceCraft arrives not as a finished product, but as a glimpse into an ambitious orbital construction yard. In the demo we hoped to see modular ship building, production chain elements, and the promise of large-scale space management.

Starting off the foundations appear solid. The ship controls feel very arcade like but you can see the promise of enjoyable flying if you use a controller and/or they smooth things out before release. The Shipbreaker like vibe of being beholden to a big space corporation and no way out is always a fun way for a game to go.

However, this remains an early build of a game that will be going into early access still. The tutorial feels like it needs to be tightened up in both pacing and focus. The always on-line connectivity in an MP space world was rough in this early build. While some of the quests and constant traveling seems like it is just trying to eat up some time because there isn’t a ton to do yet.

It does have some of the best looking, and moving, clouds in a game though. They did well with those.

For now, SpaceCraft goes under Pre-Mortem status. The body is not deceased — merely unfinished. Final judgment deferred until full release, we will most likely look at it then.

Pronouncement: Pre-Mortem.
