Retro Rewind - Video Store Simulator leans fully into nostalgia, placing players behind the counter of a video rental store in 1990 — right at the height of their cultural dominance.
The experience follows a familiar job simulator structure. Starting small and grinding toward expansion, players manage inventory, serve customers, and attempt to keep operations running smoothly.
What elevates the game are its small details. Parody film titles for new releases, customers being rude about late fees — and unexpected elements such as an adult film genre being an option adding both humor and authenticity to the setting.
The core loop is enjoyable, but also relentless. Returns pile up quickly, creating a constant need to check items back in and maintain order. The desire to hire employees to handle the workload becomes immediate and understandable.
Despite the fun and charm, the format ultimately limits its longevity on stream. Seeing what unlocks in the coming in-game days of play seems a little underwhelming in some areas, and it is not guaranteed to expand the game play we have already experienced.
