Mortal Shell II is an easy game to respect and a much harder game for me to love.
After roughly four hours, the quality is obvious. The world is gorgeous and the combat can be satisfying, even if someone who rarely ventures into Soulslikes needed some time to remember how to survive one. In other words, I was stinking it up.
The bigger disconnect was the world itself. Its dark fantasy. For fans of cryptic storytelling to drive crazy boss fights that may be part of the appeal. For me, it’s a weird story about a guy who got inside our Mether last night and she lost all her eggs and now we need to go find them.
Mortal Shell II is a high quality game.
It’s just not my game.
Mortal Shell II is therefore recorded as Dead.
The Shell remains.
This soul moves on.
Pronouncement: Dead.
