Craftlings released recently as a pixel art, side-view management experience clearly inspired by the classic design of Lemmings. The premise is simple in structure: guide small Craftlings through the multi-level maps while assigning roles, gathering resources, constructing infrastructure, and defending against threats.
On stream, the systems proved solid and well done. It felt very much like a puzzle game at times trying to get the pixelated workers going to the right places without a ton of micro.
Over the course of roughly three hours, we hit up enough of the game for me to see what it had to offer. A set of scenarios, getting the Craftlings to do what needs to be done. It was at times fun and other times less so. It was the puzzle like quality that kind of lost me. It’s a cool concept and I can enjoy puzzle like mechanics, but for this it just didn’t hook me even if enjoyable for a short time.
There is little here that is broken or poorly implemented. The decision to move on was mostly because we planned multiple games that day, though I don’t expect to return.
For this record, the filing closes.
