Civilization VII returns to active duty following the release of the major free Test of Time update, a substantial overhaul aimed at blending the game’s newer systems with more traditional Civilization structure. No, not the Civilization II remake Test of Time, this is a bit different.
The most significant addition allows players to remain with a single civilization throughout an entire campaign, addressing one of the largest points of division surrounding the game’s original progression system. Rather than abandoning the newer mechanics entirely, the update instead creates flexibility, allowing players to mix old and new approaches depending on preference.
Additional changes significantly reshape the overall experience. Legacy Paths have been replaced with Triumphs, victory conditions have been adjusted, map generation has been improved to produce more natural-looking continents, and new content such as Alexander the Great and Fractal Continents further adds to the options for playing.
Across the last day and a half of gameplay, the update proved transformative. What already felt like a strong foundation now feels more complete, offering a version of Civilization VII that better balances experimentation with the series’ traditional strengths.
The result is a game that feels revitalized without abandoning its identity.
Civilization VII is therefore recorded as Resurrected.
History repeats itself.
One more turn follows. I will post this after one more turn. One more turn.
Pronouncement: Resurrected.
